
Guam/ Micronesian Area Health Education Center (G/M AHEC)
The purpose of the Guam/ Micronesian Area Health Education Center (AHEC) program is to improve the health of underserved populations in Guam, Federated States of Micronesia, and the Republic of the Marshall Islands by:
-Increasing the diversity of the health workforce by recruiting students into
health careers especially in primary care and public health.
-Improving the distribution of the health workforce through
interdisciplinary training and internship experiences.
-Improving the quality and retention of our workforce through continuing
education.
The program is administered by the School of Nursing and Health Sciences, University of Guam, and funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration, Department of Health and Human Services, and local matching funds.
AHEC Centers are funded at Guam Community College, the College of Micronesia, and the College of Marshall Islands to implement the objectives of the program.

Ten
Dept of Public Health employees completed a 15 credit continuing
education course, “Principles of Epidemiology”, given by School of
Nursing and Health Science faculty, and funded by the World Health
Organization.
UH Medical Students Dayna Lacuab-Fegurgur and Pippa MacDonald both received internal medicine education and
training from Dr. John Ray Taitano at The Doctors’ Clinic, Summer 2011
