|SERVE GUAM! COMMISSION & THE COPORATION FOR NATIONAL AND COMMUNITY SERVICE|
Governor Felix P. Camacho signed Executive Order No. 2005-22 on June 2, 2005, establishing the Commission for National and Community Service, known as the Serve Guam! Commission (SGC). The Executive Order is in line with the Corporation for National and Community Service's (CNCS) direction to meet Disaster Service, Education, Capacity Building, Economic Opportunity, Environmental Stewardship, Healthy Futures, Veterans and Military Families, Volunteer Generation and Capacity Building through programs that encourage service and civic responsibilty.
In addition to AmeriCorps State Programs, Governor Camacho's establishment of the Commission will also connect the people of Guam to other community-based programs under CNCS, such as Senior Corps, AmeriCorps *Vista, AmeriCorps Alums, and Learn & Serve.
* SGC strategic goal areas represent the overarching framework to guide the business of the Commission in the areas of:
Promoting civic engagement opportunities and building collaboration.
Creating a positive and responsive volunteer environment.
Establishing a Volunteer Center for supporting innovative strategies, research, ideas in volunteerism and program management within community-based groups and various other collaboraters.
Strengthening the capacity of communities and organizations.
AmeriCorps is a federally-funded program designed to encourage and support volunteerism in communities. It is the national service movement that engages thousands of Americans 17 years and older, and of all backgrounds in a domestic peace corps.
This service organization believes in getting things done by meeting educational needs, public safety needs, environmental and other human needs.
Guam has three AmeriCorps Programs:
"THE AMERICORPS ALUMS PLEDGE"
I am an AmeriCorps member and I make a difference in my community.
I believe that AmeriCorps is one year in a lifetime of service.
I pledge to continue to serve in all aspects of my life.
I took action, and will continue to serve.
I sought common ground, and will build community throughout my life.
I persevered, and will live each day with conviction.
I will lead by example.
I will engage other people as we make our world a better place.
I join the AmeriCorps Alums before me and we harness our energy to inspire those yet to come.
Together, we will continue to get things done!
"THE AMERICORPS PLEDGE"
I will get things done for America - to make our people safer, smarter, healthier.
I will bring Americans together to strengthen our communities.
Faced with apathy, I will take action.
Faced with conflict,I will seek common ground.
Faced with adversity, I will persevere.
I will carry this commitment with me this year & beyond.
I am an AmeriCorps member, and I will get things done.
