Inacha'igen Fino' CHamoru CHamoru Language Competition
I FINO’ CHAMORU: Setbe, Satba yan Sustieni (THE CHAMORU LANGUAGE: Serve, Save and Sustain), is the theme chosen for the 9th Annual CHamoru Language Competition that will be held Monday, March 12 from 4 - 7 p.m. at the CLASS Lecture Hall and Tuesday, March 13 from 8 - 3 p.m. at the UOG Fieldhouse.
Held in conjunction with the university's annual Charter Day celebration, the competition promises to be bigger and better with anticipated participation from Guam's public and private schools together with the school systems in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. Elementary, middle and high schools are now preparing for the island's biggest spring event and judges representing the CHamoru speaking community from both Guam and the three islands of the CNMI will again participate.
The competition has always been free and open to the general public. The elementary students will compete in spelling bees, storytelling, drawing and children's choir. The middle schools will compete in oratorical, poetry recitation, essays, choral reading and chants while the high schools will compete in oratorical, proficiency, poetry recitation, male and female singing, song with dance and dramatic cultural interpretation.
Trophies; gold, silver and bronze medals; and certificates of participation will be awarded to winners and participants at the close of each genre of competition.
