Established in 1952 as the Territorial College of Guam, the institution was renamed the University of Guam in 1968. In 2013, we celebrate our 45th Charter Day and our 61st year as an institution of higher education.

March 12, 2013 CHARTER DAY EVENTS

All events and activities are free except for carnival games, food vendors, and other vendor booths selling products.
College of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences 34th Annual Research Conference

Over 60 presentations from UOG faculty representing CLASS, CNAS, SOE and EMSS. Forty UOG Students are presenting in the Acculturation Symposium, Clinical Psychology Symposia and in the Environmental Sciences, Education, and Learning Technology panels.

Located in the Humanities & Social Sciences Building and English & Communications Building, the conference runs from 10am to 4pm.
 
CHamoru Language Competition
2013 Theme - I Fino’ CHamoru: Eyak, Yma yan Fatta! (The CHamoru Language: Learn, Use & Show!)
Categories include: oratorical reading and chants, singing, song with dance, dramatic cultural interpretation, and many others

Center Courtyard Activities
Opening Ceremonies: 9:00 a.m. - UOG Campus Center Court

Army ROTC: Triton Warrior Battalion Cadets will demonstrate their capabilities with a “knock out a bunker” scenario with a Cadet narrating the action – commencing at approximately 11:00; ROTC will also host a fundraising dunk booth and fundraising paintball booth, a ROTC recruiting canopy area, a free kids practice hand grenade toss into a bunker area, along with free face painting for the kids. We have some joint flavor with the US Navy Special Warfare Unit supporting the event with a static display of their various equipment and weapons. We also have Guam’s own Army National Guard – supporting with a static display of their equipment and weapons. In addition, the US Army Reserve is providing support with use of their weapons for the Cadet capabilities demonstration…a solid Army and Navy team effort to make this a great Charter Day. Triton Warriors lead the way…HOOAH!!
Student Government Association activities: Center stage - Cultural dance performances, Live Music, Games, Obstacle Course, Carnival Games and Food Vendors run all day from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Meet in front of the Field House to connect with a tour guide who will guide you around campus from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Planetarium Shows
NOTE: The Planetarium has a FIRE REGULATION limit of 75 people; seating will be assigned on a first come, first served basis. (No Reservations).
Shows run every half hour from 9:00 a.m. - noon. and every hour from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
RFK Library:
RFK Library student tours are available from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon only with an adult chaperone. Book Sale 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon. Library Hours will be from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. on Charter Day.
Bookstore:
Located in the Student Center Rotunda from 8:00 a.m – 12:00 p.m.

Chemistry Titration Competition
The University of Guam Chemistry Department is organizing its Annual Titration Competition for high schools on the March 12th, 2013 from 8:30am to 2:00pm. The competition will be held at the chemistry laboratory, SC230, in the Science Building at UOG campus.

All the high schools in Guam are invited to participate in this event. Each school will be allowed to send two teams to this competition and each team comprises two students. As part of the preparation, a practice session will be held on March 1st, 2013 at 2.00pm. The best team and best individual performances will be recognized. Members of chemistry faculty, staff, and students will be facilitating this event.

School of Nursing & Health Sciences
School of Nursing & Health Sciences will be hosting a Health Screening table outside of the Health Science Building from 9am-12pm. Have your blood pressure checked! The first 100 people 18 and older can also have their blood sugar checked. There will also be a tour of the Learning Resources Center guided by nursing students from 9am-12pm.

MARC Gala
The Richard Flores Taitano Micronesian Area Research Center (MARC) at the University of Guam is pleased to announce the 5th Annual MARC Dinner, “Developing Micronesia: Enriching Ourselves” that will take place on March 21, 2013 at the Micronesian Ballroom, Hilton Guam Resort and Spa.
Tickets are available at $100 per individual or $1,000 for a table of 10 persons. Proceeds from the dinner have provided scholarships to fourteen (14) graduate students at the University of Guam who demonstrated a Micronesian-specific research focus and have also helped to fund projects that serve as stepping stones to future research about our island community. We cordially invite you to attend.
