Asian Association of Agricultural Colleges and Universities (AAACU)
Mariott Hotel and Spa, Tumon Bay, Guam
RATIONALE
It has always been one of AAACU’s objectives to share experiences among member institutions to advance agriculture through a more relevant agriculture education system. With various experiences and the vast knowledge available, each Asian country has its own ways of practicing agriculture. Moreover, universities in each country have its unique ways of teaching agriculture. Technology and recent advancements in the basic sciences have led agriculturists to adapt to changes that would benefit the field of agriculture as a whole. Depending on each country’s resources and capabilities, agriculture is constantly evolving to meet the needs of people all over Asia. Professors and students work hand in hand to study and find new ways in addressing agricultural concerns by providing research results that will benefit agricultural sustainability and production.
Food security, climate change and water shortage, are some of the issues that must be addressed nowadays, especially by the agricultural sector. Universities and other institutions have mobilized communities and utilized their resources and knowledge to conduct research and plan ahead to face these problems. Also, college institutions have been strategizing to promote agriculture as a field of study, even with these tough times.
With its member universities and institutions, AAACU will hold its 18th Biennial Convention in Guam this October 2010. This event is seen as one of the main activities of the Association that will strengthen partnerships, collaboration, and more importantly exchange of agricultural information among members. Deans and professors of agriculture are expected to come. Experts in different agricultural fields will impart their knowledge on certain topics through the paper presentations and exhibits. The biennial convention will be an opportunity for members to highlight the association’s goals and plans in the coming years.
