Some would say the shopping here isn’t as good as such nearby meccas as Manila, Hong Kong or Bangkok. But as some locals will tell you, it all depends on where you look. Guam’s shopping experiences range from the mundane (think mall) to the exotic (think fresh caught-in-dead-of-night panglao, or crab, available only at the early morning flea markets).
Here is a glimpse of some shopping opportunities available here.
Acanta Mall: The Acanta Mall is one of the most eye-catching shopping malls on Guam, with its unique construction and colorful, open-air design. The mall houses a Jungle Java coffee shop, hip boutiques and the trendy Fishbowl bar. Located along San Vitores Road in Tumon.
Agana Shopping Center: This is undergoing renovations this year, and is scheduled to reopen in December with an anchor department store. Inside, there’s a coffee shop, an Esprit store, card shop, a 24-hour Pay-Less supermarket and more. Call 472-5027.
Chamorro Village: The outdoor shopping center includes a variety of stores, such as a kite shop and kimono store, an international lineup of food vendors, a market and entertainment. The Wednesday night market is a great way to sample everything. Call 475-0375.
China Arts: This specialty shop carries Asian rugs and decor, and also is a mecca for those into the craft of printmaking and stamping. Call 477-8145.
Compadres Mall: This Dededo mini-mall has a Jollybee, other restaurants, small clothing stores, Island Hobbies and more. There’s also a King’s Restaurant on the premises.
Cost U Less: Bulk items for cheap. Locations in Harmon and on Chalan San Antonio, Tamuning. Call 632-2532 (Harmon) and 649-4744 (Tamuning).
Dededo flea market: This early morning weekend shopping bazaar is a great place to haggle over bargains galore. Located in Dededo, just off Marine Drive. Vendors usually pack up by 9 a.m.
DFS Galleria: The Galleria includes both high-end and moderately priced retailers and a Planet Hollywood restaurant. Call 646-4216.
Dededo Mall: Located along Marine Drive in Dededo. Call 653-1000.
Gef Pa’go: This is Guam’s traditional village in Inarajan. Skilled craftspeople work teach traditional crafts and skills. Throughout the year, there are song and dance festivals, arts and crafts workshops and markets. It’s open from 9 a.m to noon daily. Call 828-7246/7 for more information.
Guam Premier Outlet: Clothing, department store, toys, discount stores, and outlets including Ross Dress for Less, BCBG, Famous Footwear and more. There’s also quite a decent selection at the food court, and a computer store and bookstore on the premises. Call 647-4032.
Hafa Adai Exchange: Vendors carry clothing and household goods from Asia; small eateries provide Philippine and Chamorro dishes. Located off Marine Drive in Tamuning.
Jeff’s Pirates Cove: Along with tourist souvenirs, this Talofofo shop/restaurant carries a selection of locally made arts and crafts.
Kmart: This megastore carries a full range of the products it offers in the mainland, plus groceries, Guam souvenirs and a Little Caesar’s Pizza restaurant. Open 24 hours. Call 649-9878.
Micronesia Mall: Anchored by Macy’s, the island’s biggest mall features a multi-screen theater complex, food court and more than 100 shops. Call 632-8881.
The Plaza: A variety of small boutiques such as Gucci and Guess lure shoppers to this corner of Pleasure Island in Tumon.
Tumon Sands Plaza: This upscale shopping center has a Tiffany & Co. store, Louis Vuitton, Bulgari and other boutiques. Call 646-6801. |
