What is Federal Work Study?
Federal Work Study is to provide job opportunities for a student who needs financial assistance to pursue
a college education at the University of Guam. The FWS salary is 100% federally funded by the U.S. Department
of Education. A FWS award is not considered a gift aid. It is an award that requires you to work in order
to earn the funds allotted to you.
How do I qualify for the Federal Work Study?
*Student must complete their FAFSA and Financial Aid Information Sheet no later than April 30. FAFSA must be
valid and does not require any corrections).
*Must indicate “yes” to work study on your FAFSA to be considered eligible.
*Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident or eligible non-citizen with a valid social security number.
*Must be in your second semester or beyond at the University of Guam and are registered for at least half-time
(6 credits) as undergraduate, graduate, or post graduate student in a degree program.
*Must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or better if your Undergraduate
or 3.0 or better if your Graduate student.
*Must maintain good academic standing and satisfactory academic progress. Students
under probation
due to credits; cumulative gpa; and appeals are not qualified for work study.
*Must not be in default of any federal Title IV loan program.
*Must demonstrate financial need.
*If you are a continuing work study, your over all evaluation must be satisfactory or better to continue.
*Must remain in good standing throughout the semester.
