Serianthes nelsoniiMerr. FABACEAE This handsome legume is one of the rarest plants in the world, presently known from only one mature tree in northern Guam and fewer than 120 specimens from Rota. Because of its rarity, this tree was placed on the U.S. Endangered species list in 1987. |

Nervillia jacksoniaeRinehart & Fosb. ORCHIDACEAE
This newly discovered species, co-described by Herbarium staff member Agnes Rinehart, is only found on the islands of Guam and Rota. It can be found in shady places on sandy soil or humus. |

This plant, called otot in the indigenous language of Chamorro, is endemic to three of the four largest and southernmost islands in the Mariana Archipelago: Saipan, Rota and Guam. |

Bulbophyllumsp.ORCHIDACEAE
The pseudobulbs and the leaves of this newly discovered and undescribed Bulbophyllum somewhat resemble another Mariana Island endemic B. guamense, but the plant is smaller and more delicate. |

Coelgyne guamensisAmes ORCHIDACEAE
The genus name (coel = hollow, gyn = female) refers to the deeply sinuated stigmatic cavity. There are about 150 species of this mainly Indo-Malaysian genus that occur, usually at higher elevations. |
