“Lina’la-ta” (This is our life) A Musical Odyssey March 29
As part of the culmination of Chamorro Month, the University of Guam Endowment Foundation in partnership with Bank of Guam, Docomo Pacific, Guam Visitors Bureau, and Jones & Guerrero Company, Inc., brings you a musical extravaganza saluting the pioneers of Chamorro music.
On March 29, 2014, “Lina’la-ta” (This is our life) A Musical Odyssey will highlight nine Chamorro artists, composers, and songwriters and will feature a live band; story-telling with prominent island personalities; and performances designed to both entertain and educate the audience in the history of Guam’s talented musical artists. A special tribute will highlight four additional artists, who will be honored for their contribution to Guam’s musical heritage.
This multi-media production will feature live performances as well as video and is designed to appeal to those who appreciate conventional shows and to stimulate the senses of those who are drawn to a more technically designed production. The presentation will not only give recognition to the forerunners in Chamorro music, but also serve to encourage younger generations in their musical endeavors.
Jesse Leon Guerrero, Chairman, UOG Endowment Foundation Board and former Governor Joseph Ada, Event Chair wanted to raise funds for UOG and promote and celebrate Guam’s Chamorro Heritage at the same time. Lina’la-ta A Musical Odyssey provides this opportunity.
“We are featuring the past and celebrating the future of our rich Chamorro music and culture in a new way,” said Mark Mendiola, UOG Endowment Foundation Executive Director. “A portion of the proceeds will benefit the UOG 60th Anniversary Capital Campaign, and will help build a 21st century University of Guam campus.”
Tickets are available at the UOG Endowment Foundation Office or at Bestseller locations in the Micronesia Mall and GPO. General Admission is $20 and VIP tickets are $50. For more information, contact the UOG Endowment Foundationat 735-2957 or visit their website.
