Women in History Section Opens at UOG MARC
In celebration of Women’s History Month in March, the Guam Council of Women’s Clubs has partnered with the University of Guam Micronesia Area Research Center to establish the first Women in History section. The launch will take place at 4:00pm, Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at the UOG MARC Library.
Donna Kloppenburg, president of the Guam Council of Women’s Clubs (GCWC) will present folders containing historical records of the many women organizations established on Guam to be stored at the UOG MARC Library for the community’s use. According to Denise Mendiola-Hertslet, project coordinator, “We want the Women in History section to be a valuable source of information and inspiration for our future generations of Chamorros and Guamanians.”
The Guam Council of Women’s Clubs was formed in 1983 to promote friendship and fellowship among the women of Guam. Today, the Guam Council of Women’s Clubs (GCWC) has 14 member organizations that consist of civic and professional women’s clubs around the island. The members meet every 1st Tuesday of the month to discuss important issues pertaining to their organizations, to network, and to provide support to the community through fundraisers and volunteerism.
