The University of Guam’s Isa Psychological Services Center and the Guam Museum are collaborating to offer part three of a virtual tour series specially designed for families with older adults and persons with dementia who might not be able to visit the museum in person.

Part three of the tour -- taking place from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 16 -- will focus on the museum’s fourth gallery, “Fanatahguiyan I Ha’åni,” which translates into “A Time of Change.”

The exhibit covers the period from Ferdinand Magellan’s landfall on Guam in 1521 to the beginning of World War 2 in Guam in 1941. It tells the story of Western influences on CHamoru culture, including both Spanish and American colonization, and also highlights the survival of CHamoru traditions, language, and culture.

Guam Museum Curator Michael Lujan Bevacqua, who holds a doctorate in ethnic studies and specializes in CHamoru history, language, and culture, will be conducting the virtual tour.

The tour is part of Isa’s online support groups for family caregivers of persons with dementia being conducted in collaboration with the Guam/Micronesia Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program under the UOG School of Health. The virtual tour is meant to provide a stimulating and meaningful experience for participants to enjoy from the comfort and safety of their homes.
