About I Sagan Fandipositon Kotturåt Guåhan
The Guam Cultural Repository houses and cares for our island's treasured cultural artifacts and associated records. We are dedicated to the preservation, conservation and rematriation of Guåhan's cultural and material heritage. Located on the University of Guam (UOG) campus, the Cultural Repository is a division of the Guam Museum, under the Government of Guam Department of CHamoru Affairs, providing Code of Federal Regulations-compliant curation and research operations. We also work alongside UOG's Micronesian Area Research Center (MARC), serving as an educational and research facility for cultural scholars and practitioners in the region interested in Guåhan's tangible and intangible heritage.
Our scope includes archaeological collections, which have been displaced or removed owing to large-scale developments caused by militarization, tourism, and other construction projects in Guåhan, archaeolgical records, and more recently, material heritage, which have returned home from museum collections abroad. Although the Guam Cutural Repository holds and curates our island's cultural artifacts and material heritage, we strongly support preservation in situ (in place), through which a better understanding and respect of Guåhan's cultural and historical landscape can be realized for the people of Guåhan and future generations.
