Faculty and Research Associate Summer Residence

Faculty and research associates interested in working in partnership with a University of Hawaii Cancer Center faculty member by pursuing research, working in a laboratory, learning new skills, or focusing on cancer education, research or outreach may apply for funding from the U54 grant for support for a summer in residence at the University of Hawaii at Manoa campus.

The goal of such an experience is to acquaint our faculty with the resources available at the University of Hawaii Cancer Center and to prepare a proposal for a research or outreach project at the University of Guam funded through the National Institutes of Health – National Cancer Institute U54 partnership grant.

Applicants will team with a mentor from among UH Cancer Center faculty for the summer 2017 term to develop a research or outreach project proposal for funding through the Cancer Research Center for years 4-5 of the U54 grant. Applicants are invited to submit a letter of interest with a clear idea for a research or outreach project to the Co-Investigators. Letters should be submitted to Alicia Borja, House #7 Deans Circle on or by December 31, 2016 by 5:00pm. Application will then be submitted for review to, Dr. John Peterson, Chair Research and Education on January 01, 2017. Summer salary will be paid by the grant along with travel costs. Housing in Hawaii will be funded by our partners at the University of Hawaii Cancer Center.

Graduate Fellowship

The aim of the grant is to train minority Pacific Islander students in cancer research through the masters level in an appropriate discipline (Biology, Psychology, Micronesian Studies, Environmental Science, Education, Social Work, etc).  So if you are a graduate student at UOG with an interest in any aspect of cancer research, including behavioral and/or quality of life or cultural issues, you are encouraged to apply.

Full UOG tuition and fees will be paid. In addition, the student may work as a graduate assistant part time and be paid at the current rate.  The student will be partnered with a mentor faculty member at UOG and work on current cancer health disparities research.
