UOG Tritons Defeat Guam Community College To Take Lead In GWCVL, Tridents Gain First Victory

The University of Guam Varsity Volleyball Team defeated Guam Community College 3-1 on Thursday night in the UOG Calvo Field House to take sole possession of first place in the Guam Women's College Volleyball League. The Tritons defeated GCC 25-16, 25-27, 25-18 and 25-21.

Both teams struggled serving in the early going of every set, with several balls being served into the net or out of bounds. In the first set, UOG tied the match at 10-10 after trailing early and then took a 12-10 lead and never looked back in the opening game. In the 2nd set, GCC took the lead themselves after another 10-10 tie and UOG was able to fight off one set point at 24-23 GCC and to tie the match at 25-25, but GCC finished the set off 27-25.

UOG was able to take control of the 3rd and 4th sets in the middle game and win both sets for the 3-1 victory.

The Tritons go to 3-0 at the halfway point of the regular season while GCC falls to 2-1.

The UOG Tridents (Recreation Program Club Team) defeated Pacific Islands University 3-1 in the 2nd match of the evening. The Tridents defeated the Tide 19-25, 25-16, 25-18 and 25-21.

The Tridents dropped the opening set to the Tide 25-19, but came to beat PIU in 3 straight sets. The Tridents are now 1-2 on the season while PIU is 0-3.

Guam CC takes on Pacific Islands on Monday, September 24 at 6:15pm in the UOG Calvo Field House while the UOG Tritons play Pacific Islands at 7:45pm.
