UOG Men's Basketball drops two games at March Madness Tournament

UOG Men's BasketballThe University of Guam Men's Basketball Team lost two games on March 16 at the March Madness Tournament held at the Andersen Air Force Base Coral Reef Recreation Center.

 

In the first game, the Tritons took on MISAMA Air Force Base from Japan and were defeated 101-71. The Tritons started out well in the first quarter, leading by as many as 13 points early on and leading at the end of the first period 18-11.

 

But in the second quarter, MISAMA scored 28 points to the Tritons' 15 points to take a 39-33 lead at halftime. MISAMA outscored the Tritons 62-38 in the second half to win by 30 points, 101-71.

 

Logan Hopkins led the Tritons with 18 points, while AJ Carlos added 15 points and Ajurrell Grape scored 13.UOG Men's Basketball

 

In the second game, the UOG squad faced the OSAN Air Force Base Team from Korea.

 

The Tritons had a solid start in the first five minutes of the game as Logan Hopkins hit five three-pointers early to keep UOG in game, but OSAN went to a full court press about halfway through the first quarter leading to a 40-20 score after the first period. The Tritons never made a run at getting back into the game and lost 112-58.

 

Logan Hopkins scored 36 points for UOG, which included 10 three-point shots. No other Triton scored in double figures. The Tritons play two more games in pool play on Sunday and then take Monday off to participate in skill contests for free-throw shooting, three-point shooting, and slam dunks. Bracket play begins on Tuesday.
