The Tridents Women’s Club Basketball Team of the University of Guam Recreation Program fell short to the Guam Community College Women’s Team 38-27 in the opening game of the Trident Women's Basketball League on Jan. 29, 2019, at the UOG Calvo Field House

The GCC team came into the game with a full squad of 11 players while UOG started with five players and built to seven players by half-time. GCC lead all four quarters by scoring most of their points inside the paint while UOG kept their composure early by finding shots inside and outside the paint until they found a rhythm late in the game to pull closer to GCC.

Top scorers in the game were UOG’s Izzy Abad with 14 points and GCC’s Meaghan Cruz with 13 points.

UOG is now 0-1 in the league while GCC is 1-0.

In the second game of the night, Team Slay defeated Fuesta BC 61-44. It was a tight first quarter with Slay and Fuesta tied at 15 apiece. Slay then found their rhythm and began to pull away in the later quarters.

Team Slay top scorers were D. Stinnett with 15 points, B. Benito with 14 points, and C. Lujan with 11 points. Team Fuesta top scorers were Eiysia Perez with 10 points, Ha’ani Quinata 9 points, and Taneea Henderson with 8 points.

GCC plays Team Slay in the 6:15 p.m. game on Thursday, Jan. 31, and UOG plays the Fuesta Basketball Club in the second game at 8 p.m. Both games are in the UOG Calvo Field House and admission is free.
