The Trident Women’s Volleyball League was back in action last night with the UOG Tridents Women's Basketball Club facing team Breakthrough at the UOG Calvo Field House. Breakthrough played strong winning all three sets (25-10, 25-17, and 25-12) and handing the Tridents their second loss of the season.

Breakthrough gave the Tridents little room to breathe in the first set with several kills leading to a score of 14-4. Play started to improve for the Tridents with middle blocker Laressa Halladay deflecting a number of spikes and acing her serves, closing the gap to 14-10. But they couldn’t hold the momentum, and Breakthrough finished the set at 25-10.

In the second set, Halladay again landed some good hits and aces and set the score even early on at 2-2. Both teams saw good rallies, but the experienced Breakthrough team caught the Tridents’ soft spots and landed aces setting the score at 11-6. Eventually Breakthrough pulled far ahead taking the set 25-17.

The scoreboard leader went back and forth throughout the set, but eventually Breakthrough was able to hold its ground and bring the score to 25-12 taking their record to 2-0 while the Tridents fall to 0-2.

In the second match of the night, Guam Community College gave a good fight against a strong Guam Pro team. Guam Pro took the win in three sets (25-2, 25-7, and 25-10) giving GCC a 0-2 record while Guam Pro remains undefeated.

The league plays again on Thursday, Oct. 3, starting with the two undefeated teams —Guam Pro and Breakthrough — facing off at 6:30 p.m., followed by GCC vs. UOG Tridents at 8:15 p.m.
