The University of Guam Army ROTC program will hold its Cadet Battalion Change of Command Ceremony at 8 a.m. this Friday at the UOG Calvo Field House. The event is open to the public.

Cadet Battalion Commander Brendan Santos will hand over the leadership of the battalion to Cadet Kortney Camacho. Santos is a graduate of George Washington High School and is majoring in political science, while Camacho is a graduate of Guam High School and is majoring in criminal justice.

The Change of Command Ceremony is a time-honored tradition in military services that signifies the ordered transition of leadership duties in military units. At the University of Guam, the Cadet Battalion executes a change of command every semester, and every UOG ROTC graduate has the opportunity to serve in numerous leadership positions throughout their time in the program. It allows the cadets to put into practice the leadership lessons and theories that they learn in the classroom.

“Cadets Brendan Santos and Kortney Camacho are exceptional, mature young leaders who represent exactly what we hope for in our program’s graduates,” said Lt. Col. Thomas Anderson, UOG ROTC’s professor of military science. “They are confident and intelligent, and they know how to motivate others to accomplish whatever mission or task is in front of them.”

UOG’s Army ROTC program was established in October 1979 and is celebrating 40 years of producing dynamic leaders for Guam, Micronesia, and the United States of America.
