The University of Guam Varsity Women's Basketball Team opened its new era with a solid victory, defeating the Team Legends 86-41 in the opening game of the PBS Guam Women's Basketball League on Sept. 10, 2019, in the UOG Calvo Field House.

The Lady Tritons came out strong in the first quarter, putting up 30 points in the first 10 minutes to lead the Legends 30-4 after one period. The Tritons were led by Jan-Nasia Tavilla with 10 points in the first quarter, including two three-point baskets.

The Team Legends, whose team includes UOG Athletics Hall of Fame members Susan Lupola and Theresse Sison, played hard but could not make a comeback in the game as UOG led 45-22 at the half and won the game 86-41.

Tavilla led the Tritons with 21 points while the squad balanced out the rest of the scoring with Niah Siguenza and Isla Quinata scoring 11 points each and Paige Persha, Danica Cabrera, and Shania Bulala adding 10 each. Siguenza and Persha both had 10 rebounds for the Tritons.

Erwin Takasy led the Legends with 10 points and was the team's only scorer in double figures.

In the second game of the night, the Fuetsa Basketball Club defeated the outmatched UOG Trident women's club team 94-9.

The Tritons return to the court at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12, to play the Tridents, while the Team Legends take on the Fuesta team at 8:15 p.m. Both games will be in the Calvo Field House.
