On July 31, the University of Guam’s Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Student Chapter was awarded the Superior Merit Award, its 24th such award as a chartered chapter, for its 2019–2020 achievements.

The Superior Merit Award is the second highest award given for an academic year by the national SHRM organization, requiring that the chapter plan and implement a total of at least nine projects.

The Superior Merit Award is performance-based, taking into consideration the chapter’s activities in legislative advocacy, hosting seminars and conferences, interacting with the local SHRM professional chapter, attending SHRM conferences, volunteering, competing in a regional human resources competition, participating in internships, and fundraising.

The UOG SHRM Chapter was under the leadership of President Melchor S. Castigador for the fanuchånan semester and President Gabrielle Quenga for the fañomnåkan semester.

“UOG and SHRM Guam and our HR communities of Guam should be excited to know that our HR program and our HR students are continuing to set the bar of excellence and once again achieve the very highest,” said Dr. Richard S. Colfax, the chapter’s faculty adviser, along with founding member and current co-adviser Dr. Joann Diego. “As a result, the UOG SHRM Student Chapter has once again earned its place on the international SHRM playing field. What a fantastic accomplishment.”
