The Trident Women’s Volleyball League was back in action Thursday night with the University of Guam Trident Women’s Volleyball Club facing Guam Community College at the UOG Calvo Field House. The Tridents got their first win of the season beating GCC in three sets with GCC taking one set (26-24, 25-23, 20-25, 25-19).

The UOG Tridents had a strong start with good back-and-forth rallying leading to three straight kills early on by Tridents’ Talia Aguon with another to end the first set at 26-24.

In the second set, the rallying continued, but little mistakes from both teams cost them easy points. The Tridents’ Laressa Halladay ended the second set by blocking a hit making the score 25-23.

The Tridents were looking strong starting the third set at 5-1. As the set continued, GCC fought back and matched the score at 19-19. GCC’s Nica Moja had five straight aces that gave GCC its first set of the night at 25-20.

Good action in the final set found the Tridents once again in the lead with the score at 10-5. GCC continued to find sweet spots against the Tridents and climbed up the scoreboard with the score set at 13-19, but the UOG Tridents held strong, finishing the set at 25-19 and taking their overall record to 1-2, while GCC fell to 0-3.

In the first match of the night, the undefeated teams Breakthrough and Guam Pros went head to head with good rallies back and forth, but eventually Guam Pro took the win in three straight sets winning (25-17, 25-18, 25-23). Guam Pro now leads the league at 3-0, while Breakthrough stands at 2-1.
