The University of Guam Triton Men’s Basketball Team is the only team from UOG advancing to the next round of the “Take It 2 the South Part 2” tournament. The Tritons secured their spot by defeating Team Humble 57-39 in an elimination game Tuesday night. The Tridents co-ed basketball club team was eliminated from the tournament after a 53-46 loss to Team Acdavate on Tuesday at the Talofofo Gym.

UOG started strong by taking an eight-point lead in the early minutes of the game. Although the Tritons struggled with rebounding and scoring inside shots, they maintained their lead throughout the first half and led 22-14 at halftime.

Team Humble found it challenging to make a good run in the second half, while the Tritons kept a solid 10-point lead for most of the final quarter. UOG put Team Humble away with a final surge at the end — winning by 18 points with a final score of 57-39.

Matthew Santos led the Tritons with 18 points and was the only player from UOG to score double digits in the game.

The Tritons have a 2-2 record in the tournament and will play again at 7 p.m. tonight against the Just-Shoot-It basketball club. If the Tritons defeat Team Just-Shoot-It, they will take on Team Wu Tang at 9 p.m. tonight for a spot in the finals.

Team Acdavate took control early and led 20-7 at the 10-minute mark of the first half. The Tridents made a run and closed the gap to four points, but Team Acdavate had another surge at the end of the first period and led 27-19 at halftime.

During the second half, the Tridents stayed close, only trailing by three to five points. UOG gained momentum in the final quarter and led by one point, 43-42, with less than four minutes on the clock. With only two minutes left in the game, the score was tied 44-44.

Team Acdavate scored nine points at the end and defeated the Tridents with a final score of 53-46. The Tridents were led by Nicolas Pangelinan with 20 points and Ike Solomon with 19 points.

The Tridents finished the tournament with a 1-2 record and ended their co-ed season with a 3-3 total record in two tournaments.
