The University of Guam Triton Baseball Team will play against the Marlins in the opening game of the Guam Amateur Baseball League at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Triple J Baseball Complex at Okkodo High School in Dededo.

The league features nine teams this season, with eight regular season games for each team followed by a single elimination playoff round.

The Tritons will play two games over the opening weekend of action, as UOG takes on the Braves on Sunday afternoon at noon.

“We are extremely happy to be in the Guam Amateur Baseball League and the prospect of playing in another great Guam baseball association for the fall semester. It will give our young team a chance to develop more and learn a different brand of baseball,” said UOG Athletics Director Doug Palmer

The league features seven-inning games. With a 2.5-hour time limit for games, the league games move faster, and play is at an accelerated pace.

The Tritons recently finished their Guam Major League season with an 8-6 record and in a tie for 5th place in the 12-team league.

The Tritons have grown their roster to 16 players for August to December after only having 13 players in the January to May 2022 season. Head coach Roke Alcantara Jr. and assistant coach R.J. Minor had to play at times when the roster for a game was reduced to 10-11 players.

“We lost three players from the spring semester but picked up six additional players and we have 16 players total for the fall season. We had hoped to have gotten 18 players, so we were close, hopefully the16 stay together and we can add a few more in the spring when we return to our invitational tournament and the Guam Major League.”

The Guam Amateur Baseball League is scheduled to conclude in November with its playoffs.
