The University of Guam Triton Esports program will be holding tryouts in January for their League of Legends, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive team rosters. Tryouts are open to all full-time UOG students registered for the fañomnåkan (Jan. to May) semester.

As Guam’s first-ever collegiate esports team, Triton Esports seeks to mold student-athletes into leaders through diligent coaching, training, and mentorship. The program welcomes all students interested in esports and competing in local and national tournaments. Students who join the esports team will be awarded a scholarship of up to $750 for their time and commitment.

Tryouts are set for: 6 p.m. on Jan. 4 and Jan. 6

League of Legends: UOG Triton Esports Discord (Online)

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: Triton Esports Broadcast Studio

CS:GO: UOG Triton Esports Discord (Online)

The tryouts will be streamed live on Twitch with local shoutcasters providing commentaries on the matches. The stream will highlight live in-game footage from League of Legends, SSBU, and CS:GO, as the matches progress, allowing fans to view the best action during tryouts.

Triton Esports will also hold tryouts for shoucasters — esports commentators who entertain and inform the audience during matches. Head shoutcaster Alan Passauer said applicants will be judged on their game knowledge, attitude, and ability to communicate effectively. Tryout dates will be announced on the program’s website and social media channels.

"Shoutcasting is sports commentary for esports. It's not intimidating, as long as you have a good understanding of the game and have the charisma and communication skills for it,” Passauer said. “Entertaining people is our job, but you also need to be able to understand and incorporate knowledge of the game."
