UOG Tritons Defeat Southern Sutterz 3-0
The University of Guam Men’s Volleyball Team opened the first match of the Triton Men’s Volleyball League with an easy 3-0 victory over the Southern Sutterz in the UOG Calvo Field House on September 9.
With several new faces in the lineup, the Tritons played well for an opening match. Returner Joe Mafnas looked dominant on the court, as last year’s Most Valuable Player for the Tritons put away several hard spikes during the match. However, the Tritons can still improve, with a good number of serves going into the net or out of bounds, and a few instances where the ball fell between two players who weren’t sure who should take it.
The league has five teams. UOG and Southern are joined by the Andersen Bombers, the Titans, and the Phantoms. The league will play on Tuesdays and Thursdays in doubleheaders for the rest of the regular season, followed by single-elimination playoffs to end the season. The championship match is set for October 7.
The league returns on Tuesday, September 9, with the Titans taking on the UOG Tritons at 6:30 p.m., and the Southern Sutterz battling the Phantoms at 8:15 p.m.
