Northern Construction notched its first win over the KFC Guam Select team on Wednesday night at the UOG Calvo Field House, with a tough 91-85 victory. FairZesh also defeated their rival, the MicroFriends, with a 92-69 win.
Northern Construction has played Guam Select tough over several seasons in the Tritons
Men's Basketball League, but had never secured a win. On Wednesday night, they led
for most of the game and held on for the victory.
The first quarter was a defensive struggle for both teams. Ben Borja scored 9 points
for Guam Select, while Hell Francisco added 8 for Northern Construction. Northern
led 21-19 after the first period.
RJ Diwa led Northern in the second period, scoring both inside and out and putting
up 10 points. Northern scored 24 points in the quarter, while KFC Guam Select managed
21. Northern built a five-point lead at halftime, 45-40.
In the third period, Northern Construction attempted to pull away, extending their
lead to 10 points twice. KFC Guam Select responded and kept the game within reach,
trailing by 3 to 5 points. Northern led 72-66 heading into the fourth period.
In the final period, Northern again extended their lead to 10 points. AJ Grape led
Guam Select’s comeback effort, scoring 10 points in the quarter. They cut the lead
to four points twice in the final minutes, but it was not enough as Northern held
on for the win, 91-86.
RJ Diwa led Northern Construction with 23 points. Four other Northern players added
between 12 and 15 points, creating a balanced offensive effort. Ben Borja led KFC
Guam Select with 25 points, while AJ Grape added 20.
Northern Construction improved to 3-1 in the Triton League and secured the No. 2 seed
for the playoffs. KFC Guam Select fell to 2-2, marking their second loss in the Triton
Men's Basketball League.
In the nightcap, FairZesh jumped out to a big lead against the MicroFriends and held
off a comeback to win 92-69.
FairZesh built a 34-18 lead in the first quarter. Chris Connor and EJ Mori combined
for 28 points, and each hit three three-pointers in the opening period.
The MicroFriends responded in the second period, outscoring FairZesh 23-14. They cut
the deficit to seven points at halftime, 48-41.
FairZesh lost Chris Connor to a leg injury at the start of the third period. The MicroFriends
pulled within four points early in the quarter. Connor returned later in the period,
helping FairZesh regain momentum. FairZesh won the quarter 21-14 and led 69-55 heading
into the fourth.
In the fourth period, FairZesh extended their lead and secured the 92-69 victory.
FairZesh was led by Chris Connor with 26 points and EJ Mori with 20. The MicroFriends
were led by Lawerence Tisulcha with 14 points and Ken Brozo with 12.
FairZesh evened their record to 2-2 in the Triton League. The MicroFriends dropped
to 0-4 and will be the sixth seed in the playoffs.
