Ralph E. Macaldo was named the 2025-2026 Student-Athlete of the Year for his accomplishments on the basketball court with the University of Guam Tritons. Macaldo excelled during his two Triton League seasons in the athletic year and also earned a Most Valuable Player award in a community tournament during the spring semester. Triton Athletics presented its annual Student-Athlete Awards on Wednesday night, May 13, during a ceremony at the UOG Calvo Field House.

Each of the University’s four sports programs presented four awards: Most Valuable Player, Best Offense, Best Defense, and the Triton Award. The Triton Award recognizes a student-athlete whose contributions may not fit a traditional category and can reflect academics, sportsmanship, hustle, attitude, or other qualities selected by the coach.

The four MVP winners were then nominated for Student-Athlete of the Year, with Athletics Director Doug Palmer selecting the overall recipient.

Dr. Gena Rojas, Dean of Enrollment Management and Student Success, welcomed the student-athletes and coaches in attendance. Athletics Director Doug Palmer followed with a review of the 2025-2026 year and shared future plans for the department. Among the department’s goals are the addition of women’s tennis for the 2026-2027 academic year and two additional sports for 2027-2028. The sports to be added in 2027 have not yet been selected.
