The UOG Tritons were eliminated in the semi-finals of the Triton Men’s Volleyball League playoffs on Monday night, February 16, falling 3-0 to the top-seeded Big Digs. In the other semifinal, the Monarchs also earned a 3-0 victory, defeating the Andersen Bombers to advance to the championship match.
The Tritons struggled to find momentum against the Big Digs, who captured the first
two sets 25-17 and 25-14. UOG showed more energy in the third set and led for part
of the middle stretch, but a late surge by the Big Digs secured a 25-20 win to complete
the sweep.
In the second semi-final, the 3-0 score matched the earlier result, but the sets were
more competitive. The Monarchs took the opening set 25-19 to grab the early lead.
The Andersen Bombers pushed hard in the second set, but the Monarchs held on for a
tight 28-26 victory. The third set was equally competitive, with the Monarchs edging
the Bombers 25-23 to seal the match.
The Big Digs and the Monarchs will meet tonight in the championship match at 8:15
p.m., while the Andersen Bombers and the UOG Tritons will compete for third place
in the opener.
Big Digs enter the championship at 5-0 on the season, while the Monarchs stand at
4-1. Andersen holds a 2-3 record, and the Tritons are 1-5.
