UOG delivers first Short-Term GIS Training Course for professionals

Participants from government of Guam agencies, educational institutions, and other organizations attended the University of Guam’s inaugural Short-Term Training Course on Basic Geographic Information Systems (GIS), held Oct. 13–17, 2025. The five-day course introduced foundational GIS concepts and applications, including digital mapping, data visualization, and spatial analysis.
Conducted by Dr. Jose Edgardo Aban, assistant professor of geography at UOG, who also
oversees the UOG Geographic Information Learning Laboratory (GILLs), the training
is part of the University’s efforts to expand professional development opportunities
and geospatial literacy on island.
The cohort included representatives from the Department of Land Management, Guam Economic
Development Authority, Guam Power Authority, Northern Marianas College, UOG’s College
of Natural and Applied Sciences, and other regional institutions.
