UOG Theatre and Music Present Stephen Sondheim’s “Merrily We Roll Along”

The University of Guam Theatre and Music programs proudly present Merrily We Roll Along, the Tony Award Winning musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a book by George Furth. The production will run for three nights only on November 20, 21, and 22 at 7:00 p.m. at the UOG Fine Arts Theatre, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. each evening.
This semester’s production showcases the creative talents of UOG’s own students, many of whom are theatre and music majors performing Sondheim’s challenging work for the first time. The musical’s deeply emotional story and complex score have already inspired students in rehearsals as they explore its themes of friendship, ambition, and the bittersweet passage of time.
Audiences are also invited to enjoy a special preview performance at the Micronesia Mall Center Court on Saturday, October 25 at 11:00 AM, offering a sneak peek of the musical’s lively numbers and talented cast.
Set against the backdrop of the 1960s and 1970s, Merrily We Roll Along tells its story in reverse, starting with a successful but disillusioned composer and moving backward through the key moments of his life and career. This inventive storytelling style reveals how dreams evolve, friendships change, and success often comes at a cost. The production promises to be both thought-provoking and nostalgic, resonating with audiences young and old.
“This vintage story will evoke plenty of nostalgia for those who remember the 1960s and 1970s,” said Dr. Troy McVey, Professor of Theatre. “Our students are discovering just how powerful and timeless Sondheim’s work truly is.”
Tickets will be available at the door (cash only) each night. General Admission is $25, while UOG faculty and manåmko’ may purchase tickets for $20, and youth (ages 12–18) for $10. Admission is free for all UOG students with valid ID. Reservations can be made by calling (671) 735-2700.
Merrily We Roll Along is presented through a special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). For updates, behind-the-scenes content, and rehearsal sneak peeks, follow @uogtheatre on Instagram and Facebook.
