What is Educational Talent Search?
Educational Talent Search (ETS) is one of three federally funded programs at the University of Guam supported by the U.S. Department of Labor. ETS is designed to identify and support individuals who have the potential to succeed in postsecondary education, career training, apprenticeships, industry credential programs, and the workforce.
ETS serves 852 participants, including students in 8th through 12th grades and eligible re-entry students. At least 67% of participants must be first-generation and/or low-income (FGLI). First-generation students are those whose parents or legal guardians have not completed a college degree.
Through academic support, high-impact tutoring, career exploration, financial literacy, college and career preparation, apprenticeship opportunities, and connections to in-demand industry credentials, ETS helps participants level up their skills and build clear pathways toward their educational and career goals.

Am I Eligible?
Applicants must meet the following requirements:

Be an 8th-grade student, high school student, or re-entry student;

Be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, permanent resident, or eligible resident of Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), or the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI); and
-
Have an Alien Registration Number or Green Card issued by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), if applicable.
Important note: At least 67% of participants must be first-generation and/or low-income (FGLI) students. First-generation students are those whose parents or legal guardians have not completed a college degree at a U.S.-accredited institution. Low-income students are those who meet the family-income guidelines established by the U.S. Department of Education.
Up to 33% of participants may not meet the FGLI requirement, but must satisfy the program’s other eligibility criteria.

Middle School Services (8th Grade Students Only)
Our 8th-grade services help students make a successful transition to high school and begin planning for their future.

- Study skills and academic success strategies;
- Math First High-Impact Tutoring (HIT);
- Financial literacy and money-management skills;
- Career exploration and future planning;
- Information about college and career readiness;
- Career speakers from the island community;
- Introduction to pre-apprenticeships and Registered Apprenticeships; and
- Summer Bridge Program at the University of Guam.
High School Services (9th-10th Grade Students Only)
Students in grades 9–10 receive support to stay on track for graduation while exploring college, careers, and workforce opportunities.
- High school graduation and course-planning guidance;
- Math First High-Impact Tutoring (HIT);
- Career exploration and information about in-demand industries;
- Career speakers and professional connections;
- Pre-college test preparation and PSAT registration assistance;
- Scholarship and financial-aid information;
- Financial literacy and college-cost planning;
- Exploration of industry credentials and career pathways;
- Information about pre-apprenticeships and Registered Apprenticeships; and
- Academic advising and ongoing student support.
High School Services (11th-12th Grade Students Only)
Students in grades 11–12 receive personalized support as they prepare for college, career training, apprenticeships, or employment.
- College admissions and application guidance;
- College course and admissions requirements;
- College campus visits;
- ACT, SAT, and placement-exam preparation and registration assistance;
- Scholarship searches and application support;
- Financial literacy and college-cost planning;
- Step-by-step FAFSA assistance;
- Career exploration and connections to in-demand industries;
- Information about industry-recognized credentials;
- Connections to pre-apprenticeships and Registered Apprenticeships;
- Career information and tutoring referrals; and
- Leadership opportunities, including the National Student Leadership Congress for eligible juniors.
