Submit Your Photo or Video for the Virtual Commencement Ceremony

The deadline to submit content is May 29 at 4 P.M.

The University of Guam will hold a virtual commencement ceremony for its Fañomnåkan 2020 semester at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 18. The event will be livestreamed on Facebook and the UOG website. Should circumstances allow, graduates will also be able to participate in a traditional commencement later this year. 

We want the virtual ceremony to be as engaging and personalized as possible. One of the ways we can achieve this, is by incorporating your photos or videos into the ceremony. When your name is called during the virtual ceremony, in place of walking up on stage, your photo or video will appear on screen.

PHOTO SUBMISSIONS

• Submit photo with you in a cap and gown.
  If you have not yet received your academic regalia, please contact the Triton Store at (671) 735-2931/41 or email annsalg@triton.uog.edu or David Quintanilla at davidq@triton.uog.edu.

• If a photo with a cap and gown is not possible, a (head and shoulders) photo with you in professional business attire or “Sunday best” is acceptable. Men may wear a dress shirt and dress pants with coat and tie, or a variation, such as a dress shirt with a blazer and no tie or a long-sleeved dress shirt and necktie without a blazer. An island print shirt with dress pants is also an option. Women may wear a business suit or Sunday best.

• Photo Format: Send a photo with an aspect ratio of 16:9 and a minimum resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels.
• Accepted filetypes: JPG and PNG. File size should be less than 10MB.
  

VIDEO SUBMISSIONS

• You may send a 7-second video instead of photo. Please dress in the attire mentioned above. The video may feature you holding up your diploma and waving or cheering. No audio will be broadcasted in these videos.
• Video Format: Videos must be 7 seconds long and should be shot horizontally and have a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels (1080p).
• Accepted filetypes: MP4 and MOV. File size should be less than 100MB.

PHOTO AND VIDEO TIPS

We do not require a professional headshot. We have the following recommendations for taking a headshot at home:

• Have someone else take the photo or shoot the video– no selfies.

• Find an area with a background you like and stand a few feet away so there is some space between you and the background.

• Find an area with window light and face the light.

• Shoot tight – just head, shoulders and elbows in the photo without much space around you.

• Have the photographer shoot straight-on – no high, low, or side angles.

• Stand so your toes are pointed 45 degrees away from the camera and turn your torso to look back at the camera.

• Stand up straight and smile!
