UOG Appoints McVey and Leon Guerrero to Leadership Positions

The University of Guam promoted two UOG administrators to new leadership positions to oversee student and institutional success—Dr. Troy McVey and Deborah Leon Guerrero.

McVey was appointed Interim Assistant Vice President for Academic Excellence/ Director of Graduate Studies. Having served 12 years at the University of Guam as faculty and Associate Dean of CLASS, his most recent position was Provost Fellow to the Senior Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs.University of GuamDr. Troy McVey

McVey earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre Technology from Drake University in 1998 and a Master of Fine Arts in Theatre Design from Tulane University in 2004. This year he completed his Doctor of Education in Global Education from the University of Southern California.
In his new capacity, McVey will work closely with the Office of Enrollment Management and Student Success and the deans on student success initiatives such as academic advisement, transfer students, and high-impact practices.

“This new position continues the traditions of graduate studies,” said McVey. “It also allows for new inspections of difficult issues for university matters that span multiple academic and student service units. My hope is to create an atmosphere of constructive thought, progressive action, and student-centered conversation.”

The University appointed Deborah Leon Guerrero Assistant Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness. Throughout her 15 years at UOG, Leon Guerrero has been the Registrar and most recently the Director for Academic Assessment and Institutional Research, which she held for the last 8 years.

She earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Colorado State University in 1985 and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 1990.
Leon Guerrero will continue her work in academic assessment and institutional research while focusing on monitoring and reporting institutional accreditation compliance and supporting UOG’s overarching Good to Great initiatives.

"My office not only continues the work on supporting its original function in the areas of assessment and institutional research but—now taking it to an elevated and broader level—to assure accreditation compliance, to address WSCUC recommendations, and to support G2G implementation,” said Leon Guerrero.
