One Humanity vigil

The University of Guam and the interfaith community of Guam hosted on March 23 a “One Humanity for Peace” event, a multi-religious prayer and chant vigil for the victims of the terrorist mass shootings that took place at mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, on March 15.

“There are many cultures and many different religions, but only one human race,” said James Sellmann, dean of UOG’s College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. “All of the great prophets, teachers, masters, gurus, incarnations, and holy scriptures preach the unity of humanity and the need for peace. This vigil brought multiple religions in our community together as one people.”

The event included interfaith songs, CHamoru chants, and Muslim prayers as well as an informational presentation about Islam.

Additional prayer events for the Christchurch shooting victims will be held in Guam, hosted by the Guam Fo Guang Shan Temple:

  • 7 p.m., Friday, March 29
  • 7 p.m., Saturday, March 30
  • 1:30 p.m., Sunday, March 31
