UOG Women's Soccer goes 9-0 with victory over Sidekicks

The University of Guam Triton Women's Soccer Team won 2-1 over the Venue Sidekicks in the Guam Football Association's Amateur Women's League on Feb. 10 at the GFA National Training Center.

The first half was a defensive battle as neither team could score. The Lady Tritons had several opportunities to put the ball in the net, but the Sidekicks defense held strong or UOG missed hit the shot.

UOG had the player advantage, 11 to 10, but the Sidekicks kept most of their players on the defensive side of the field.

The teams started the second half tied at 0-0, but at the 51-minute mark, UOG took a shot on goal, the ball bounced off the Sidekick goalkeeper, hit another Sidekick defensive player, and then deflected into the goal for an "own goal" and a 1-0 lead for UOG.

The Sidekicks came back one minute later. With the ball at the top of the box in front of the Triton goal, the Sidekicks made the tying shot to make the game 1-1.

UOG came back after the next kickoff, moving the ball down the field, and Mellanne Rasmussen hit the winning UOG shot to the put the Lady Tritons up 2-1. UOG defense held the lead for the rest of the game.

UOG takes its winning streak to nine matches with a perfect 9-0-0 record. The Venue Sidekicks fall to 5-3-1 on the season. UOG faces the second-place Venue Slay team next at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 17, at the GFA National Training Center. Venue Slay was 6-2-0 entering yesterday's play.
