Retired faculty member Donald Platt was awarded the status of emeritus professor of history by the University of Guam Board of Regents on Sept. 18.  

Platt served the University and its students for 30 years teaching classes in U.S. history, world history, military history, Philippines history, and diplomatic history and serving as president of the Faculty Union. He achieved the rank of full professor in 2008 within the Division of Humanities in the College of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences.

Platt planned, designed, and implemented the University’s first high-tech classroom, HSS 203, which came to fruition in 2005. He also earned the UOG faculty award for Excellence in Teaching a record of three times — in 1993, 2003, and 2006.

He holds a bachelor’s in history from the University of the Philippines and a master’s and doctorate in history from The University of Toledo (Ohio).
