Team Gatorade handed the University of Guam Triton Men’s Basketball Team its third loss of the regular season in the Triton Men’s Basketball League on Wednesday night at the Calvo Field House. With a final score of 121-64, the Tritons are now 2-3 in the league, while Team Gatorade advances to 4-1 after coming back from its first loss of the season against the KFC Bombers.

The Tritons started the game at full speed rushing the ball down the court to make a basket. However, Team Gatorade’s defense responded quickly, forcing the ball to slip out of Triton hands and causing missed passes to their teammates. Team Gatorade ended the quarter with a 13-point lead of 33-10, and the Tritons found themselves in trouble early on.

Team Gatorade continued its strong performance in the second quarter. The team’s offense, led by JP Cruz and Matt Fegurgur, worked as a team to move the ball around and take full advantage of the shot clock, often making baskets in the final 10 seconds of possession. Gatorade maintained its 23-point lead at the close of the half with a score of 59-36.

Gatorade’s lead nearly doubled by the end of the third quarter to 91-50, and by the fourth quarter, Tritons Coach Dana Holmes put new players on the court, leading to better passing on their offensive side but no more realized points. Gatorade closed the game with a 57-point lead of 121-64.

Michael Quan, who has consistently been a top scorer for the Tritons, was limited to 15 points by the Gatorade defense but still led the team in both scoring and rebounds.

JP Cruz of Team Gatorade topped the game in scoring overall, with 72% made shots capturing a total of 33 points, 15 of which came from 3-pointers.

The league will resume play on Wednesday at the UOG Calvo Field House with Team Wu-Tang vs. the KFC Bombers at 6:30 p.m., followed by the FSAG All-Stars vs. the UOG Tritons at 8:15 p.m. The later game will be broadcast live on PBS Guam, Channel 12.
