Brandon Duenas shoots a free throw for the Tritons. He scored the team-high 13 points for the University of Guam’s opening game of the “Take It 2 the South Part 2” tournament on Feb. 22 in Talofofo Gym.

The University of Guam Triton Men’s Basketball Team opened the “Take It 2 the South Part 2” tournament with a 51-33 win over the Just-Shoot-It basketball team on Tuesday night at the Talofofo Gym.

UOG dominated the court from the start of the game having strong offensive and defensive plays. The Tritons quickly jumped to a 20-6 lead after the first 10 minutes of play and maintained their momentum throughout the first half. UOG secured a 15-point lead by halftime and ended the first half with a score of 32-17.

Team Just-Shoot-It never made a run in the second half, while the Tritons cruised through and ended the game with a final score of 51-33. Brandon Duenas led UOG with 13 points, while Tristan Valdes added 11 points for the Tritons. Duenas and Valdes were the only double-digit scorers for UOG.

UOG will play Team Wu Tang in the winners’ bracket at 7 p.m. tonight at the Talofofo Gym. The Tridents club basketball team is also playing in the tournament under the co-ed division and will take on the Imperials co-ed team at 8 p.m. tonight.
