Lady Tritons to open basketball season this weekend
The University of Guam Triton Women's Basketball Team will return to the court this weekend for the first time in almost two years. The Lady Tritons will be one of four women’s teams competing in the “Hagåtña City Slam,” a 3x3 tournament hosted by Clutch Guam and Crowns Guam.
The women's division will follow a single round-robin format, where each team competes against each other once before going into the single-elimination semifinals. The tournament begins Saturday at the Paseo basketball court, with the Lady Tritons scheduled to take on Team Post’N at 5 p.m. and Team Slay at 5:30 p.m.
UOG will play Team PPP at 5:45 p.m. on Sunday. The teams will be seeded to determine who competes against each other in the semifinals. The two winners in the semifinals will face off at 8:45 p.m. on Sunday in the championship game.
Representing the Lady Tritons in the tournament are Trinity Edilyong Reichhardt, Teressa Wagthuth, Dichem Tmetuchl, and Jacether Andrew. The team is led by Coach Cecile Olandez.
“We have a diverse team this year, with a lot of our players representing different islands in Micronesia. We’re excited to start the women’s basketball season this weekend, and we’re really proud of our Lady Tritons for representing UOG,” said Triton Athletics Director Doug Palmer.
The Triton Men’s Basketball Team will also represent UOG in the tournament. The Tritons are one of 20 teams in the men’s division, which will follow a single round pool-play format with the top four teams in each pool advancing to the playoffs.
The tournament will allow spectators at Paseo. All UOG games will be recorded and posted the next day on the Triton Athletics YouTube channel. Fans can also tune into the Triton Athletics & Field House to stay up to date with the latest athletics news, watch exclusive athlete interviews, and learn more about fitness and recreation activities at the UOG Calvo Field House.
