Tritons make a comeback with 60-55 win over Team Pudding

The University of Guam Triton Men’s Basketball Team defeated Team Pudding 60-55 in a close battle in the “Take It 2 the South” tournament on Wednesday night at the Talofofo Gym. Head Coach Dana Holmes and Assistant Coach Mike Cottrell joined the team again on the court to help the short-handed team of five players.

Team Pudding was the first to score, but the Tritons managed to score 11 points after five minutes and never trailed again. During the first half, Diane’ “D” Blackmon went full speed — scoring 10 points in the first few minutes of the game. Brandon Duenas and Coach Holmes helped the Tritons keep their lead by scoring eight points each in the final minutes before the buzzer. 

UOG led 37-25 at halftime, but Team Pudding was determined to catch up in the second half. Pudding closed the gap to two points in the final minute of the game, but the Tritons­­­ held them off — winning the game by five points. 

Leading the Tritons in scoring were Blackmon with 21 points, Brandon Duenas with 19, and Coach Holmes with 15. 

The Tritons are now 1-1 for the tournament, while Team Pudding was eliminated with a 0-2 record. 

UOG will play in another elimination game against Team FOE at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Fans can tune in on the Triton Athletics YouTube channel the following day to watch a recording of the game.
