NASA Guam Space Grant invites students seeking teaching or research internships relevant to NASA’s goals in aeronautics and space research to apply for the NGSG Undergraduate Research Internship for the Finakpo’ (June-Aug.) 2022 semester. The internship will also be offered in the Fanuchånan (Aug.-Dec.) 2022 semester.

NGSG Flyer

The internship program is geared toward the support and enhancement of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) as they pertain to NASA’s programs, including the study of the universe, Guam’s connection to space, and the growth of innovations that enhance the general welfare of the community. The program encompasses a broad range of STEM fields, such as geology, biology, oceanography, astronomy, computer science, medicine, and more.

Successful applicants have the option to pursue one of two paths: a teaching or research internship. Teaching interns will have the opportunity to partner with a University of Guam professor and provide instructional support, while research interns will work on original research projects as they pertain to NASA’s broad range of focus areas.

Stipend

Financial support for undergraduates may include a one-semester stipend of $4,000, renewable for a second semester for a total of $8,000 per academic year. A travel and supply budget of $500 per semester will be available for those pursuing the research internship path as funds allow.

Successful applicants will have the opportunity to present their research projects at the NASA Guam Symposium in the spring and the Hawaii Space Grant Symposium in the fall.

How to apply

Internships will be awarded based on a proposed project’s quality, feasibility, and relevance to NASA’s goals as well as the applicant’s academic aptitude. Women, underrepresented minorities, and individuals with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

Eligibility

• U.S. citizen
• Full-time undergraduate students
• Declared STEM-related major

Students must also have a mentor — UOG faculty, senior researcher, or other qualified personnel — to guide them through the duration of the program.

UOG applicants must submit their applications to Dr. Romina King by June 17, 2022, for preliminary review for the summer program, and by July 16, 2022, for the fanuchånan semester.

Interested students can learn more about the application process at an information webinar scheduled for later in June.
