The Western Pacific Tropical Research Center hosted a special in-house seminar on Dec. 29 with visiting aquaponics expert Dr. Nick Savidov from the Aquaculture Centre of Excellence at Lethbridge College in Canada.

Savidov, who developed the first-ever fully automated zero-waste aquaponics system, presented to WPTRC faculty and staff on aquaponics as an example of sustainable food production in a controlled environment and how advanced aquaponics could work in Guam.

His visit on island included tours of the Ija and Inarajan agricultural experiment stations as well as several aquaponics and aquaculture sites in Guam, including Triton Farm, the Fadian Hatchery, and the Valley of the Latte.
