Thirty of the island's best youth chess players gathered at the University Calvo Field House on Saturday, December 11, for the first UOG Triton Esports Scholastic Chess Invitational.

The Harvest Christian Academy team emerged as the chess champion following hours of competition.

Student-athletes of the Triton Esports program organized and ran the invitational tournament featuring students from various high schools, middle schools, and elementary schools on the island. 

Harvest scored two points ahead of Science is Fun and Awesome (SIFA) through the efforts of Tuan An Tran, Noah Combs and Vivian Wen. Tran and Combs both finished first place in their divisions. 

The Triton Esports program plans to host an online high school chess league that will welcome teams islandwide beginning in February 2024. 

The winners:

Expert Division

First place - Tuan An Tran (Harvest)

Second place - Jayce Javelosa (SIFA)

Third place - James Justo Marcus (iLearn)

Veteran Division

First place - Noah Combs (Harvest)

Second place - Cynric Zhang (St. John's)

Third place - Keane Orpilla (St. Anthony)

Novice Division

First place - Isaac Perez (SIFA)

Second place - Alexis Justo (iLearn)

Third place - Alex Jang (St. Anthony)
