Fairzesh Defeats UOG Tritons To Open Triton League Playoffs
For a moment, it looked like the UOG Tritons would have a forfeit win over Fairzesh on Saturday afternoon, April 19, as Fairzesh only had one player with two and a half minutes to go before forfeit time. However, the game was saved as four Fairzesh players showed up just in time.
Fairzesh came out with guns blazing despite having no warmup time, scoring 28 points in 1st quarter. Chris Connor scored 16 points in the opening quarter, leading Fairzesh to a 28-20 lead over the Tritons.
Connor’s hot hand continued in the 2nd quarter, scoring another 9 points in the half and leading Fairzesh to a 53-39 lead at halftime.
EJ Mori took over the scoring lead for Fairzesh in the 3rd period, nailing down 15 points in the quarter with three three-pointers, leading Fairzesh to an 81-62 lead going into the 4th period.
The Tritons tried to mount a comeback in the 4th quarter, but Fairzesh was too far ahead. UOG outscored Fairzesh 27-16 behind Kyle Watanabe’s 10 points in the period but lost the game 100-89.
Chris Connor led Fairzesh with 33 points, with EJ Mori adding 19. Jacob Mercado led UOG with 24 points, while Kyle Watanabe added 21.
Fairzesh now advances in the playoffs to face the #1 Seed, Team Austability, on Monday night. The UOG Tritons move to the loser’s bracket and will face the loser of the KFC Bombers and MicroFriends game on Monday night in a Wednesday game at 6:30 pm.
