UOG English Instructor Simpson-Warner Successfully Defends Doctoral Dissertation

Carol Simpson-Warner, an instructor of English at the University of Guam, passed her doctoral dissertation defense in the interdisciplinary studies Ph.D. program at the University of Alaska Fairbanks on December 12. The program is a partnership between UAF and UOG that allows students to customize their curriculum by combining coursework from multiple disciplines.
Simpson-Warner’s dissertation, titled “Writers' Stories of Process and Product: Cross-Language Consideration in the Editing of the Predominantly English Language Work of Translingual Writers in Guam,” examines the linguistic choices, practices, and values of three Pacific Islander writers in their academic and creative writing.
“The University of Guam, in partnership with the University of Alaska Fairbanks, is extremely proud of Professor Simpson-Warner and the research she successfully defended,” said Dr. Sharleen Santos-Bamba, UOG Senior Vice President and Provost and co-chair of Simpson-Warner’s dissertation committee. “Her dissertation is of high quality and contributes to the discourse of writing research in Micronesia.”
Simpson-Warner is a two-time alumna of UOG and holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a Master of Education in Reading. She has been teaching English composition classes at UOG under the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences since 2002.
