UOG Tritons Capture The Regular Season and Will Be The #1 Seed For The Playoffs, Southern Sutteru Takes #2 Seed
The UOG Tritons beat the Phantoms on September 23 in the UOG Calvo Field House, 3-0, capturing the regular season championship and securing the #1 seed for the playoffs. Southern Sutteru defeated the Andersen Bombers, 3-2, and claimed the #2 seed.
The opening match between the Bombers and Sutteru was a back-and-forth battle. The Bombers took the first set, 25-23, but Sutteru responded with a tight 26-24 win to even the match.
The Bombers came back strong in the third set with a 25-16 victory, taking a 2-1 lead. Sutteru answered again with a 25-23 win, forcing a decisive fifth set. The final set was close throughout. Sutteru led 8-6 at the side switch and later pulled ahead, 13-10. The Bombers fought back to 14-12, but Sutteru closed it out, 15-12.
Southern Sutteru finished league play at 3-1 and earned the #2 seed for the playoffs. The Andersen Bombers, now 0-3, will face the Titans (also 0-3) in their regular-season finale to determine the #4 and #5 seeds.
In the nightcap, the Tritons entered with a 3-0 record against the 2-1 Phantoms. UOG started strong, winning the first set 25-13. The Phantoms challenged in the second set, but the Tritons held firm for a 27-25 win. UOG then sealed the match with a 25-22 victory in the third set.
The Tritons finished the regular season at 4-0 and will be the #1 seed for the playoffs. The Phantoms are now 2-2 and secured the #3 seed.
The playoffs begin on Tuesday, September 30, with the #4 and #5 seeds facing off. The Andersen Bombers and the Titans will take those spots, with their regular-season finale deciding the seeds.
