UOG Tritons Take Early Lead in Volleyball League, Southern Sutteru Upsets Phantoms
The University of Guam Tritons took early control of the Triton Men’s Volleyball League with a 3-1 victory over the Titans on Tuesday night, September 9th, at the UOG Calvo Field House. Southern Sutteru capped the evening with an upset win over the Phantoms, 3-0
The Titans dominated the first set in the opening match and won 25-20 over the Tritons. However, the Titans used their reserves in the second set, and UOG made them pay, winning 25-10 in a rout.
The Titans returned to their first team in the third set but still lost a close one, 25-22, as UOG seized the momentum. In the fourth set, UOG led all the way while the Titans gave more experience to their second-level players, losing the set 25-16 and the match.
UOG is now 2-0 in the league, while the Titans opened play at 0-1.
In the nightcap, the Phantoms—last year’s defending champions under the name Troupe—did not look like themselves against Southern Sutteru. They dropped the first set 25-20, then played better in the second but could not overcome mistakes, falling 25-22.
In the third set, the Phantoms seemed to lose heart, and Southern closed out the upset with a 25-16 win.
Southern Sutteru is now 1-1 in the league, while the Phantoms opened their season at 0-1.
