The University of Guam Triton Men’s basketball team saw its seven-game winning streak, dating back to the 4Stars Basketball Tournament, come to an end with a 102-94 loss to Northern Construction on Sunday afternoon. In the nightcap, the Andersen Bombers, defending champions of the Triton Men’s Basketball League, opened their season with a 94-77 win over the MicroFriends.
UOG started strong, but Northern Construction finished the first quarter with momentum, building a 30-18 lead behind 10 points from RJ Diwa. The Tritons responded in the second quarter, scoring 28 points, with Rico Taitague contributing 13 in the period to help UOG take a 50-48 lead into halftime.
Northern regained control in the third quarter, outscoring the Tritons 32-25 to take an 80-75 lead heading into the final period. Elmar Moradas added 11 points, and Hell Francisco scored 10 during the quarter for Northern. The Tritons rallied late in the fourth, cutting the deficit to 97-94, but were unable to score again as Northern closed out the 102-94 victory.
Diwa led Northern Construction with 34 points, while Moradas added 20. Taitague paced UOG with 19 points, followed by Jordan Madrazo with 16 and Ralph Macalpo with 14.
Northern Construction improved to 1-0, while the Tritons fell to 1-1.
In the nightcap, the Andersen Bombers jumped out to an early lead and maintained control throughout a 94-77 victory. Darryn Daniels scored 11 points in the opening quarter, leading the Bombers to a 29-18 advantage after the first 10 minutes. Andersen followed with a 21-13 second quarter to extend the lead to 50-31 at halftime.
The Bombers continued to pull away in the third quarter, winning the period 26-13 to take a 76-46 lead into the fourth. The MicroFriends won the final quarter 31-18 against Andersen’s reserves, but the Bombers secured the 94-77 win.
Daniels led Andersen with 21 points, while Chris Townsend added 18. Johnny Ignacio and Lawrence Tisalona led the MicroFriends with 19 points each.
Andersen opened the season at 1-0, while the MicroFriends dropped to 0-2.
The Triton Men’s Basketball League returns Wednesday night with two games:
Wednesday, March 18
- 6:30 p.m. – MicroFriends vs. KFC Guam Select
- 8:15 p.m. – Andersen Bombers vs. Northern Construction
All games are played at the UOG Calvo Field House. The MicroFriends vs. KFC Guam Select game will be streamed on the UOG Athletics Facebook page, while Andersen Bombers vs. Northern Construction will be available on the Clutch Plus app.
