The University of Guam celebrated the grand opening of the Dr. Lucio C. Tan Student Success Center on Friday, Jan. 23 — a major investment in student support, access, and engagement.

The 45,000-square-foot facility centralizes core services including admissions, financial aid, academic advising, wellness, and student support programs, while also offering dining options, retail space, collaborative study areas, and multipurpose event venues. Designed to be a hub for student life, the center reflects the university’s strategic commitment to student retention, experience, and success.

“This center is not simply a building, it is a commitment to access, support, and the power of education to transform lives,” said UOG President Anita Borja Enriquez. “The Dr. Lucio C. Tan Student Success Center stands as a promise we make to every student who chooses this university — that their success is our responsibility.”

Dr. Gena Rojas, interim dean of Enrollment Management and Student Success, added that the center was intentionally designed with students in mind. “Our students matter, their time matters, and their experience on campus matters. This building turns support into something students can see, feel, and access every day.”

The new facility strengthens the university’s connection with the broader community, offering flexible event spaces and amenities for academic, cultural, and professional gatherings. A 200-seat dining hall, along with coffee and retail spaces, helps position the center as a welcoming place for students, employees, and visitors alike.

“Our students deserve services and spaces that support every part of their academic journey,” said Senior Vice President and Provost Sharleen Santos-Bamba. “The Dr. Lucio C. Tan Student Success Center will be at the heart of that journey — from application to graduation to connection as alumni. It will serve as a true Sagan Dinaña, a gathering place for past, present, and future Tritons.”

The center is named in honor of Dr. Lucio C. Tan, a renowned entrepreneur and philanthropist from the Philippines whose $1.5 million gift to UOG helped make the project possible. Known for his leadership in aviation, banking, real estate, and education, Dr. Tan’s philanthropic legacy includes a strong emphasis on expanding access to higher education and advancing institutional capacity.

“This is where students will come for guidance, support, and encouragement,” President Enriquez said. “When our students thrive, our island communities thrive.”
