Learning Resources Center (LRC)

The SOH Learning Resources Center (LRC) consists of the nursing skills laboratory, HS139, and the computer lab, HS239.  The skills lab is equipped with hospital beds, equipment and supplies to simulate the hospital environment.  Students in practicum must first learn their nursing skills and demonstrate beginning mastery of the procedures on manikins before they are guided to perform them in the acute care setting. The computer lab is a resource for students in computer assisted learning, literature search, research data input and analysis using SPSS or Excel, word processing, and NCLEX review programs.   Funding for the computer lab was donated by Dr. Charles Parent, TakeCare, and Guam Legislature/Senator Lou Leon Guerrero.  The high tech simulated manikin (SimMan) was funded by the 2005 Congressionally-directed grant to enhance the learning environment of nursing students.

The Sally Tsuda TakeCare Resource Center for Nursing Education, Research and Service (STTRC), HS 236, was established in 2005 with funding from TakeCare to house nursing and health information collected through surveys, research activities, community assessments, program evaluation activities, and Guam health data for grant writing.  In 2008, funding was obtained from the US Department of Interior to establish the STTRC as the home office of the American Pacific Nursing Leaders Council (APNLC).

The University of Guam Margaret Perez Hattori-Uchima School of Health has established the first fully simulated birthing lab in Micronesia. The lab includes a state-of-the-art pregnant mannequin, computer software to simulate real-life birth scenarios and numerous pieces of supporting equipment. The $40,000 lab includes training and was funded in part by the Area Health Education Center grant and with funding from Take Care Inc. The lab is part of the Learning Resource Center housed at the Margaret Perez Hattori-Uchima School of Health on the UOG campus. Read the full article
